Jim W. Parkin grew up on the plains of South Dakota. He has been photographing people, places and things since high school. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree and went to work for a manufacturing company in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1960. During Jim’s engineering career, he also did free-lance portrait, commercial, and stock photography on a part time basis and has studied and taught photography in his spare time. He has won awards in many competitions and has been published in trade publications and consumer magazines.

After 37 years in industry, he and his wife Jeannette retired to pursue other interests. For Jim, this was a concentration on landscape and nature photography, areas that he had always worked on but never had the time to fully explore.

In 1999 Jim and Jeannette sold their home and started traveling full time in a motorhome. This gave them the freedom to visit family and friends throughout North America and to photograph the unlimited beauty of our country. Since then, they have criss-crossed the United States and Canada several times.

The images in these galleries are the result of Jim's photography over the years and are a mix of old and new. Many were taken early in the morning or late in the evening when the light is soft and warm, and atmospheric conditions provide added interest to the scene. Jim often scouts the subject and composition ahead of time and pre-visualizes what the scene will look like, then returns to wait for the light to do it’s magic.

Jim hopes you enjoy viewing the images in these galleries as much as he enjoyed making them.
